Bushenyi, Uganda – Conservative Party presidential candidate Elton Joseph Mabirizi has promised to prioritize the construction and rehabilitation of the Bushenyi-Mbarara road, a key route that has been in a poor state for years. While campaigning in Bushenyi on Wednesday, Mabirizi emphasized that improving the road would enhance access to critical services such as education and healthcare for the residents of the region.

“The Bushenyi-Mbarara road is in a deplorable state, and it is time we address this issue once and for all. As President, I will ensure that this vital road is properly constructed, providing safer and more reliable access to essential services for the people of this area,” Mabirizi declared to a crowd of supporters.

The road, which connects the southwestern districts of Bushenyi and Mbarara, has long been a source of frustration for commuters, with many citing poor road conditions as a barrier to accessing hospitals, schools, and markets. Mabirizi’s promise to improve this infrastructure comes as part of his broader commitment to addressing Uganda’s pressing infrastructure needs.

In a pointed critique of the current government’s priorities, Mabirizi questioned why President Yoweri Museveni’s administration is focusing on road construction projects in neighboring countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) while leaving critical roads in Uganda in disrepair.

“While we see roads being constructed in DRC and other neighboring countries, our own roads here in Uganda are left to deteriorate. The people of Bushenyi, and indeed the entire country, deserve better. We must invest in our own infrastructure first before turning our attention elsewhere,” Mabirizi asserted.

Mabirizi’s promise to prioritize local infrastructure development, particularly roads, has garnered support from residents who see it as a much-needed solution to improve their daily lives.

As the election season heats up, Mabirizi’s critique of the government’s priorities and his pledge to revamp critical infrastructure are likely to resonate with voters in rural and underserved areas, where road conditions have long been a major concern. However, whether Mabirizi can deliver on these promises and convince the electorate of his ability to bring about meaningful change will be key in the upcoming 2026 elections.
